What we can learn from Canada’s successful struggle to legalise the Right to Die
About this Event
Canada is one of the few countries where you do not have to have a terminal illness in order to qualify for the choice of an assisted death. We hope to learn more from Canada’s experiences to assist our campaign and align the Canadian model with MDMD’s objectives.
We are honoured that Dr Green has agreed to join us at our April meeting to talk about the struggles that Canada experienced before finally getting the law passed and what has followed since. This will include the good, the not so good, and the ongoing issues.
Dr. Stefanie Green is the co-founder and President of CAMAP (the Canadian Association of MAiD Assessors and Providers). She is also Medical Adviser to the BC Ministry of Health MAiD oversight committee and a moderator of CAMAP’s national online forum.
After her talk, there will be time for questions and answers. We are also hoping to have a short video interview with Melanie Reid, a Times journalist, who lives near Glasgow. She is now a tetraplegic resulting from a horse-riding accident and supports MAiD (Medical Assistance in Dying) and its objectives.
There will be an update for MDMD and FATE members on how MDMD is progressing, including the annual review and its future plans. It is anticipated that the afternoon will end at about 5pm.
