It’s a highly emotive question – should terminally-ill adults be given the right to end their lives at a time of their own choosing? Holyrood is currently considering a bill which would legalise the practice in Scotland. One of the MSPs in favour of a law change is the former Scottish Greens co-leader Lorna Slater. The politician has a very personal connection with the subject. Late last year she tavelled back home to Canada to be present at the assisted death of 84 year-old father Andrew. In an exclusive interview with Scotland Tonight, she shared her feelings about a process which – in her words – allowed her Dad a ‘beautiful death’.
